IDA – Re-imagine Air Cargo Industry

Re-imagine Air Cargo Industry

IDA (INFOCOMM DEVELOPMENT AUTHORITY OF SINGAPORE)

ABOUT THE PROJECT

Over the last decade, the growth of the air cargo industry in Singapore has remained stagnant. To maintain Singapore’s position as a leading logistics hub, IDA (Infocomm Development Authority of Singapore) approached our team to provide a perspective on how the IoT (Internet of Things) would help in redesigning the value chain of air cargo industry.

We identified the inefficiencies in the cargo industry and the main challenge – data not being shared. At the end of the project, we proposed an integrated Intelligent Ecosystem, where we will be able to catalyze growth through new business opportunities and collaboration.

MY ROLE

User Experience Designer
  • Prototyped the air cargo journey with various interactive designs
  • Helped in presenting the grand vision by storytelling the cargo journey using the designed prototypes

STORYBOARD

To understand the current process and imagine the ideal journey, I started with the storyboards. This helped the team to figure out the touch points where technology can be applied to improve productivity and efficiency. For example, if all data can be shared, the warehouse people will be able to know which trucks will be arriving in the next 15 mins and prepare the trolley and space beforehand.

ANDROID APP PROTOTYPE

In order to showcase the use cases of NFC and Bluetooth technologies, I designed and developed a high-fidelity prototype – an Android app that can scan NFC and detect Bluetooth devices. In order to achieve this, I learned to programme with NFC and Bluetooth in a week.

ROLE PLAY

To demonstrate the imagined ideal Air Cargo journey, I invited a few colleagues to act the scenarios from the storyboard. The prototypes were used in the demo. This helped me tell the story better and gather useful feedback from external perspectives.

PRESENTATION

As part of the final deliverables to the client, I presented the re-imagined cargo journey using a series of scenarios and use cases. The main goal was to show how technology will act as the enabler to break the inefficiency cycle and lower the barriers to innovation.
